THE GREAT NORTH HARLEY RIDERS USA TRIP

In 2000 several of our group took up an invitation from US friends to join them in a grand tour of several states with the climax being a trip to Sturgis for the 60th Black Hills Rally. The trip started on the 26th July and ended in Monticello, Mn on the 18th taking in New Orleans, Houston, Santa Fe the Rocky Mountains and lots of cowboy country along with much more.

Nine Scots and one Geordie took part, technically it's Six Scots and three adopted Scots but they've been awarded the honour of Scottishness by default. The names of those going are;

Fred & June Henderson, Charlie & Grace Mackenzie, George & Linda Powditch, Dave Urquhart & Michelle Howard and Angus Wing and John Natrass.

The first eight regularly attend rallies together with others joining when they can . Angus is a globetrotter and joins us when he can. When he's not here he can be found either in Singapore or the US. John is offshore but makes meetings and rallies when he can too.

Organiser of the trip is Ron who is originally from Minnesota but travels the world and had a long spell in Aberdeen before moving to Africa recently. Over the past year Ron and Angus have made friends with a few Floridians who will be joining us on the trip along with a couple from Louisiana and Jim who will tag on from Houston TX.

Rough route is Sarasota, Fort Walton Beach, New Orleans, Houston, then on through Texas and New Mexico and Colorado. After that it's on to Sturgis for a bit then eventually Buffalo Minnesota. At this point most will be heading back by plane to Florida while Ron trailers bikes south for us. George and Linda have taken an extra week to drive back via "Gracelands"
